Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye is a common condition, which often manifests itself with symptoms of gritty, burning, uncomfortable, red eyes.
At Opticare we specialise in the treatment of dry eye. There are numerous different treatment options we can offer.
The most appropriate and effective treatment for you will depend on the exact cause of your dry eye. Therefore, we first need to perform a dry eye assessment where we can find this out, and put a treatment plan in place.

Blephex
In the picture you can see our revolutionary new ‘Blephex’ treatment. Blephex is used to treat Blepharitis, which is a common cause of dry/gritty eyes. In this procedure we very precisely and carefully, spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing scurf and debris and exfoliating your eyelids. Patients often notice an immediate improvement in dry eye symptoms, post treatment.
Punctal plugs
A punctal plug, also known as tear duct plug, is a small medical device that we can insert into the tear duct of an eye to block the duct. This procedure is quick and painless. The plug helps to keep the natural tears in the eye for longer, and therefore helping to treat the dry eye.
HYCOSAN (£12 per bottle)
Commonly we prescribe Hycosan Extra which costs £12 per bottle. We find it very effective at helping to alleviate symptoms of dry eye. It is preservative free and once opened the bottle can be used up to 6 months.
Optase heat mask (£12)
When you suffer from dry eye caused by blocked meibomian glands... We find this can be the most effective way of applying heat to the lids (warm compressing) to help unblock the Meibomian Glands and treat evaporative dry eye at source.
Optase tea tree oil lid wipes (£10)
This is a Unique, Preservative free, formulation of Tea Tree Oil & Hyaluronic Acid 20 sterile eyelid wipes.
